Costume Lectures

In addition to costume entries for The Birds, a number of masterclasses and workshops, run by internationally renowned educators and practitioners are currently, being planned, including:

14/6 COW09 New In Marianne Custer & Connie Furr-Solomon's workshop, Hopi Indian headdresses and masks, students will create headdresses and masks based on the dolls received by children of the Hopi Indian tribe of the Southwestern US.
14/6 - 15/6 COW06 US Costume designer Laura Crow’s Carnival Masterclass will explore examples of carnivals from across the globe, for example, Trinidad style Human supported floats, Cuban "hombres carossas" (man floats),Carnival costumes from the Philippines made from foam rubber. This will be followed by a Carnival Costume Workshop during which students will be invited to create carnival costume in preparation for The Birds Carnival Parade which promises to take over the streets of Prague. 
15/6 - 17/6 COW02 In Cages, Birds and Body-Structures, Caroline Gardener, from UK, investigate the transformation from cage structures to bird forms using the body in performance. This workshop will culminate in a processional performance.  
16/6 - 18/6 COW05 From Spain, Catalan costume designer Ramon Ivars’s workshop Another Bird: La Paloma focuses on the relationship between movement & costume The aim is to build a collection of costumes, made with alternative materials, exploring the possibilities of the movement. 18/6 - 20/6 COW01 Finnish costume designers Maija Pekkanen and Pirjo Valinen’s are planning Mysterious rustling – paper as inspiration and material for theatre costumes to find new ways to create materials for theatre costumes and explore how aspects of structure and colour relate to play and the reality of the stage 
19/6 - 21/6 COW03 Czech Fashion designer Libena Rochova workshop, At the Edge of Fashion Form, explores the interface between costume and fashion through practical work with paper on the body.
21/6 - 23/6 COW04 Second hand new birds, Creating new costumes with second hand materials for "The Birds" of Aristophanes, Toon Brouwers, Marnik Baert

Reaching for the Heavens (SCW01 & SCW11), Collaboration across all disciplines to create two late evening installation/performances on the 13th and the 18th of June

Drawing workshops, exploring rendering techniques in costume design, and additional short skills-based workshops led by specialists are also being considered. 

Finally, four presentations from international costume designers are also being planned, details to follow…..watch this space!!!
