A MOVING CASTLE OF THE JAPANESE PUPPETRY

An Expedition With Nori SAWA From NINGYO-JORURI Through The Figure Theatre into the Future Art 

Participants  will try to draw or make their own design of NINGYO-JORURI using some objects or simple material like wooden stick, cloth, junks etc... We investigate the future style of NINGYO-JORURI

First step 

Through the lecture, discussion and demonstration using video and sample puppets, participants will learn briefly the concept, design, history and techniques of traditional ways of the Japanese puppetry, and also its new development by Nori SAWA. 

Second step

Participants try to construct the sample puppets and try to manipulate them. They could also learn the basic concept about the Japanese style- costume of puppets, its rich variation of colours, material and the combinations of wearing system, to make different characters on the stage. Design is always deeply connected with the theatrical functions. 

Third step

Participants try to draw or make their own design of NINGYO-JORURI using some objects or simple material like wooden stick, cloth, junks etc..We investigate the future style of NINGYO-JORURI. 

The last step

We will show our result for audience by the small presentation of the performances or exhibition of each drawings and so on..
