Theatre Sound and Architectural Dreamspace

Like theatre, architectural experience can be seen as events in space and time. The power of sound is that it can evoke spaces and events very effectively. This presentation is a personal exploration of the architectural experience and theatre sound design, as it relates to the theatre, drama, and psychology. The mind and body memory of architectural experience can be drawn upon to inform sound design. In theatre we can create impossible spaces, interacting with the sonic world of the subconscious. Theatre can be seen to exist on a surface, in a moment between waking and dream, where dreamspace fades into architectural space…when these spaces blur, each with there own soundscape, we can draw upon the deepest of emotions in the audience.
