Designing Auditory Aura with The MaxStage

The Workshop provides an opportunity to design auditory aura to pre-recorded and pre-visualised staged scenes using an application developed in Max/MSP entitled, The MaxStage.  The application, constructed in tandem with an Aristotelian based semiotic taxonomy (Laurel, 1993) allows users to initially create auditory aura to underpin the dramaturgy of the scene and then subsequently test the sound design within an iterative 2D-environment for purposes of evaluation and auditory feedback.

Workshop participants will need to provide their own laptop computer with the latest version of Max/MSP Runtime 4.5.7 installed.  This is available as a free download from the Cycling74 web site (www.cycling74.com).  Alternatively participants can use their own registered copy of Max/MSP.  In addition, participants will need to have the Apple QuickTime Player installed.  Workshop participants do not need any previous experience in using Max/MSP.  All necessary files, including QT movies, will be supplied.
