| The story of The Birds tells of
an ordinary Athenian who sets out with his friend, to escape the hustle
and bustle of city life in Athens. Tired of the law courts, politics,
false oracles, and military antics of their fellow citizens, and they
resolve to seek out a place to live where they can end their days in
peace. This need for peace was one of the primary themes that I found in
while reading the play. Tranquility may be found in places of worship,
buildings forged for escape. The birds build this city as an ideal
place, a sanctuary. I used images of ancient trees and desolate
landscapes when designing my concept
