The Birds Theatre Design Project (BDA_IE13) |
|||||
| Upon reading
the play, I found that the main themes of the Aristophanes, The Birds
were rebellion and escapism. Makedo and Goodhope leave Athens to escape
the ever growing levels of burocracy and law in the city. They are
tired of the way of life there and decide to opt out of society and live
with the birds. I decided to set the play atop a tall building in an urban setting. I based my ideas around the punk scene, as it symbolises rebellion and anarchy. The birds in the play are not living according to the rules of the gods nor the humans, but rather their own rules. I found that the punk theme allowed for bright, bold ,contrasting colours, and was apt when designing a production about birds. |
