| Our costumes
have emerged from an individual, personal and cultural perspective on
the Birds. For us, it was not necessarily about designing a set of
costumes for the play, but using it as a starting point for exploring
the ideas in it or suggested by it. As a result, there was great
diversity in the costumes created by the group, ranging from ideas of
entrapment, corruption and punishment through to more fantastical pieces
and the quest for Utopia. With a limited budget for construction,
emphasis was on overall effect rather than the finished technique. We
were encouraged to use alternative materials and innovative techniques
in order to stay within our budget. |
