| My paper cut
costume renderings draw inspiration from Swedish folk art. The colours
and simplified symmetrical shapes embody the spirit of the floral
embroidery found on traditional folk costumes. My imaginary production
of The Birds is staged in a provincial theatre in Dalarna, where I grew
up, and traditional art forms remain influential. The themes in our play are timeless and universal and well suited to be interpreted by any culture anywhere. Most of us wish that we could escape from the pressures of life, but no matter how far away we go, we find that we are still ourselves. Perhaps it is not a place we seek at all. Perhaps it is in the pursuit of our craziest dreams that we find our most successful transformations- our Clodcuckooland. |
