The Birds, a site-specific exploration (BDA_US32) |
|||||
| This project
portrays a site-specific production of The Birds, taking place in the
abandoned Michigan Central Train Station in Detroit. The production
revolves around a plane crash inside the main terminal, reflecting the
somewhat violent history of the birds. The acrobatics of the birds will
be helped by the red aircraft cable strung throughout the space,
allowing the actors, via costume, to attach themselves to these cables
and move along their length. The audience has the freedom to stand, walk
around, or sit at the various church pews scattered around the
terminal. While the crash site hints at danger, bits of flooring peel
away to reveal grass and a blooming tree in the midst of this rubble,
giving us a glimpse of the illusive utopia the men are searching for.
