| My response
to The Birds is an exploration of sexual power set in the world of
Vaudeville. The land of the Birds contains a forgotten chorus of
voluptuous women. While they are soft and inviting, they exude a power
that is both exciting ad intimidating. For a washed-up comedy duo
fleeing their fading glory, it seems the perfect place to reign anew.
They enter into a world full of other washed-up men (Epops), Stage-door
Johnnies (The Men), and “Legitimate,” stage actors (The Gods). The
shifts in power and status resulting from stratifying these characters
into recognizable theatrical categories allows for a powerful comment on
sex, power and greed. |
